Details

Moksha Chocolate was founded in 2019 by Jen and Michael Caines in Boulder, Colorado. The company grew from a cacao project in Peru into a small-batch, bean-to-bar chocolate business. Its approach centers on direct-trade relationships, transparent sourcing, and making distinctive chocolate while supporting the farmers behind the cacao.

This organic ceremonial cacao paste is stone-ground from whole cacao beans and retains the beans’ natural cocoa butter. The result is a dense, concentrated cacao format for drinking chocolate and chocolate-forward cooking. With no added sugar, fillers, or flavorings, the single-ingredient recipe lets you build a drink around the cacao rather than a prepared sweetened mix.

The maker describes mild citrus and cherry-berry notes, a toasted-almond-like finish, and a smooth chocolate texture. These are tasting descriptions, not additional ingredients: the ingredient statement lists organic cacao beans only. Shave, melt, or blend the paste into a warm cup, smoothie, sauce, dessert, or baked recipe. Its solid format gives you a different way to work with cacao than a loose powder.

Choose this paste when you prefer the whole-bean format and want control over the ingredients in your cup. For a scoopable alternative, compare our unsweetened Criollo cacao powder. You can also explore the coffee, tea, and cacao collection for other drink ingredients.

Care

To make a drinking cacao, shave or break off some paste and whisk or blend it into warm water or plant-based milk until smooth. The maker also suggests adding cacao to smoothies, sauces, desserts, and baked goods. Sweeten or season your finished drink to suit your taste. Added milk, spices, and sweeteners are serving suggestions and are not included. For precise portions, follow the directions on the package you receive.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Protect this cacao or chocolate from warm windows, hot vehicles, and other sources of heat. Keep the package label available for the product’s own directions and date information.

Shipping & returns

Shipping for this cacao pouch

The maker ships eligible domestic orders primarily with FedEx. Shipping availability, services, and prices depend on the destination and are confirmed at checkout; the maker does not serve every U.S. state. Early-week orders typically dispatch within 1–2 business days, while later-week orders may be held until Monday to reduce time in a carrier facility over the weekend. Published transit estimates are typically 1–3 business days after dispatch and are not guaranteed delivery dates.

For warm-weather shipments, the maker uses insulated packaging and ice packs and recommends FedEx 2-Day service, especially outside Colorado, when that option is available. Seasonal shipping rates can be higher. Standard delivery in extreme heat does not carry an unmelted-arrival guarantee. Choose an address where someone can receive the package promptly; hot porches, outdoor lockers, and delayed collection increase melt risk. The supplier excludes responsibility for melting caused by incorrect addresses, missed delivery attempts, carrier delays, extreme local temperatures, or packages left outside after delivery.

Returns and order issues

This is perishable food. The maker does not accept returns once an order has shipped, been picked up, been opened, or left its care. If this product arrives damaged, incorrect, missing, or melted, contact BuyAmerican promptly at hello@buyamerican.com with your order number, a description, and clear photos of the packaging and product. Issues are reviewed individually; a replacement, credit, refund, or another resolution is discretionary rather than automatic. Request order changes or cancellation immediately, because changes are not guaranteed after packing or handoff to the carrier.
