Details

City Bonfires was founded in 2020 by Chris McCasland and Michael Opalski. The company is based in Rockville, Maryland. After the pandemic disrupted their incomes, the two dads developed a portable bonfire to make outdoor time with family easier to enjoy. Their idea began in a garage and grew around a simple aim: help people spend less time tending a wood fire and more time making memories together. The company emphasizes practical outdoor inventions and American manufacturing jobs.

Original Mini Bonfire - Reusable Outdoor Fire Pit

The original mini bonfire offers a self-contained alternative to carrying logs for a small outdoor gathering. Soy wax and plant-based briquettes supply the fuel inside a steel tin, and the fitted lid puts the flame out between uses. Choose this single-unit listing when you need one portable fire. Bring your own lighting tool and any roasting supplies, and choose a suitable outdoor location before opening the tin.

Manufacturing origin: United States, Maryland. The maker identifies Maryland as the manufacturing location for this product.

The current maker product pages list approximately 3–5 total burn hours per tin; a separate instruction page lists 3–4 hours. These are estimates, not a guaranteed duration. Follow the current package directions and stop-use level rather than burning to a target time.

Materials

Materials & Construction

The bonfire uses food-grade soy wax and plant-based briquettes inside a steel tin. It needs no firewood, and the fitted lid serves to smother the flame between uses. The maker describes the original, unscented bonfire as suitable for roasting marshmallows. A food-grade fuel description is not permission to eat the wax, touch the tin, or use the product indoors. The scented Outdoor Candles are different products and must not be used for roasting food.

Care

Care & Storage

Extinguish by sliding the supplied lid over the opening to smother the flame. Do not blow on the fire or add water. Allow the tin, lid, and wax to cool completely before moving or storing them. Keep the lid on during storage to exclude rain, water, and other contamination. Store in a dry place away from heat and children. Do not use in wet conditions. The maker directs users to stop when one inch of wax remains. This product is relightable while usable fuel remains, but is not refillable; never add liquid fuel, alcohol, or extra wax.
