How to Choose the Best Scented Candles and Home Fragrance
Start by choosing your preferred fragrance format, then match the scent family and size to the room and occasion. Wax material, wick design, vessel, fragrance formula and care instructions all affect candle performance.
Hand-Poured Soy Candles and Scented Jar Candles
Soy candles are popular for scented container candles and giftable home fragrance. Our selection includes Lavender Soy Candle, Gardenia Soy Candle, Limone Honey Soy Candle, Chai Noon Handmade Soy Candle and Fireside Chat Handmade Soy Candle.
Not all products described as soy candles contain 100% soy wax; some are specially formulated blends. If an all-soy formula, a particular fragrance ingredient or specific sourcing matters to you, verify the exact listing rather than relying on the product category alone.
Wax Melts and Wax Cubes for Fragrance Warmers
Choose scented wax melts when you want fragrance from an approved wax warmer rather than a burning candle wick. Shop Soy Wax Melts 6-Pack, Lavender Citrus Soy Wax Melts, Toasted Pumpkin Spice Wax Melts, Volcano Blue Wax Melt or Glazed Donuts Wax Melt.
Wax warmers can still get hot. Follow the warmer manufacturer's instructions for wattage, approved wax amounts and operation. Never put wax melts directly on a stove or other unapproved heat source.
Beeswax Melts and Soy–Beeswax Home Fragrance
Our current assortment includes 100% Pure Beeswax Melts, Lavender Citronella Soy & Beeswax Melts and a matching Lavender Citronella Soy & Beeswax Candle. Beeswax comes from honey bees and can have its own natural color and mild aroma, but added fragrance and formula details vary by product.
Room Sprays and Linen Sprays
Room and linen sprays offer immediate fragrance without lighting a wick or waiting for a wax warmer. Available options include Shiplap Air + Room Spray, Iowa Timber Air + Room Spray, Lavender Vanilla Room & Linen Spray and Citrus Breeze Room & Linen Spray.
Always check the label before applying a spray to upholstery, bedding or other fabrics. Keep fragrance sprays away from candles, open flames, children and pets. A room spray is not a substitute for cleaning or ventilation.

Soy Wax vs. Beeswax vs. Wax Blends
Wax is the fuel in a burning candle. Soy wax is made from processed soybean oil; beeswax is produced by honey bees; and blended waxes are formulated with more than one wax material. Performance depends on the complete candle system: wax, wick, fragrance, additives, vessel and conditions of use. It is not accurate to assume that any wax type is automatically safer, entirely domestic in origin or longer-burning simply because of its name.
For practical care guidance, consult the National Candle Association's expert candle tips. For U.S. origin claims, review the Federal Trade Commission's Made in USA standard; unqualified claims generally require that a product be “all or virtually all” made domestically.
What Are Cold Throw and Hot Throw?
Cold throw is the scent released by an unlit candle; hot throw is the fragrance perceived while its wax is heated by a wick or a suitable warmer. The fragrance formula, vessel size, wax, airflow and room dimensions can all influence the experience. A small candle may be adequate for a compact room but subtle in a large open-plan space.
How to Choose Candles for Bedrooms, Kitchens and Living Areas
Think about the room size and your household's sensitivity to fragrance. Floral, soft woods and subtle vanilla may appeal to some shoppers seeking a gentler scent; citrus, coffee and bakery notes may suit kitchens; and woody, amber, evergreen or seasonal fragrances can complement gathering spaces. These are preferences, not performance guarantees. Never fall asleep with a candle burning, and do not burn one in an unattended room.
American-Made Candle Gifts and Seasonal Fragrance
Scented candles and fragrance sets make thoughtful gifts for housewarmings, birthdays, appreciation occasions, holidays and celebrations. When buying for someone else, consider a familiar fragrance family, a discovery set or a smaller candle. For complementary American-made gifts, browse Wall & Home Decor and Bath & Body Products. Our American-Made Christmas & Holiday Decor Guide includes seasonal inspiration.
Candle Care and Fire Safety
- Trim the wick: Approximately 1/4 inch before lighting is a common recommendation unless the manufacturer states otherwise. Remove wick trimmings and debris from the wax.
- Observe maximum burn time: Follow the product label. Do not keep a candle burning indefinitely to force an edge-to-edge melt pool.
- Avoid drafts: Fans, windows and vents can cause flickering, uneven burning and visible soot.
- Use a stable, heat-resistant surface: Never burn in damaged glass or a container not approved for candles.
- Keep a 12-inch clearance: The U.S. Fire Administration recommends keeping lit candles at least 12 inches from anything that can burn.
- Never leave candles unattended: Extinguish before leaving the room or going to bed; keep children and pets away from flames, hot wax and warmers.
- Follow the label: Stop burning before the container overheats or the wax drops below the maker's recommended minimum.

Frequently Asked Questions About American-Made Candles
Where can I buy candles made in the USA?
BuyAmerican.com features scented candles, soy candles, wax melts and home fragrance from U.S. makers. Check each listing for the exact country-of-origin statement and sourcing details.
Are soy candles always made from 100% soy wax?
No. Some soy candles contain additional waxes. Look for a product-specific formulation statement if 100% soy matters to you.
Are all the candle ingredients sourced in America?
Not necessarily. A candle may be poured in the USA while containing wax, fragrances, vessels or other components sourced elsewhere. Consult individual product disclosures and the FTC's Made in USA guidance.
Do you sell wax melts made in the USA?
Yes. Available options include soy wax melts, beeswax melts and seasonal scented melts. Use an approved warmer and follow its instructions.
Are wax melts flameless?
Electric wax warmers do not use a candle wick and open flame, but hot wax and the warmer can still cause burns. Only use the wax and warmer as directed.
What is the difference between soy and beeswax?
Soy wax comes from soybean oil; beeswax is made by honey bees. Both can be used in fragrance products, with different formulations, colors and added scents.
Do you sell room and linen sprays?
Yes. Current products include Shiplap, Iowa Timber, Lavender Vanilla, Citrus Breeze and other fragrances. Check each label before spraying fabrics.
What are the best candle scents for fall and winter?
Consider pumpkin, evergreen, cinnamon, warm vanilla, baked goods and cozy woods. These fragrance families appear in our seasonal candle and wax melt assortment.
What is the best candle to give as a gift?
Choose based on the recipient's scent preferences. Floral, fresh and vanilla profiles are familiar options, while discovery sets and specialty candles offer variety.
Why is my candle tunneling?
Tunneling can result from very short burns or a mismatch between the wick, wax and vessel. Follow the manufacturer's burn-time guidance; do not over-burn to correct a tunnel.
How long should I burn a scented candle?
Follow the product label's maximum burn time. The National Candle Association commonly recommends no more than four hours for many candles, but the maker's specific instructions take precedence.
What does Made in USA mean for candles?
The Federal Trade Commission generally requires an unqualified Made-in-USA claim to be supported by evidence that a product is “all or virtually all” made in the United States. See its official Made in USA guidance.
