• Sowing: The easiest and best method is to direct sow seeds outdoors in late fall or very early spring. Poppies do not transplant well and perform best when sown directly.
• Depth: Press seeds into the surface of the soil, as they need light to germinate. Do not cover.
• Spacing: Sow seeds about 6-12 inches apart.
• Light Requirement: Full Sun.
• Soil: Prefers average, well-draining soil.
• Care: Deadheading is not necessary but can prolong the bloom period.

Keep unused seeds dry and cool in a clearly labeled, closed container. Protect the packet from humidity and temperature swings, and retain the variety name and sowing notes for your next planting. Use the species-specific directions below when deciding whether to start indoors, sow directly, soak seeds, or provide a cold period. Germination and growth vary with seed handling and local growing conditions.
