Urban Southern launched its online shop in spring 2015 after designer and founder Regina Bauman and her husband, leather craftsman Jay, developed a business from a Christmas-gift tote in Monterey, Tennessee. The brand moved to Pennsylvania following its 2019 acquisition by Daniel and Rachel Smucker and is now based in Narvon, in Lancaster County. Its stated priorities include practical design, traditional leather craftsmanship and thoughtful everyday use.
