The City Bonfire Portable Fire Pit 5-Pack includes five compact, self-contained outdoor fires for patios, campsites, picnics, beach trips, date nights, s’mores and outdoor gatherings. Each lidded steel tin contains soy wax and plant-based briquettes and measures approximately 4 inches in diameter by 2 inches high.

Each unit can be extinguished with its lid and relit until the fuel is consumed, providing up to five total burn hours according to the manufacturer. Actual burn time varies with wind, temperature, lighting, extinguishing and other operating conditions.

  • Five portable fires: Each purchase includes five City Bonfire units in the selected edition.
  • Compact size: Each steel tin measures approximately 4 inches in diameter by 2 inches high.
  • Relightable: Smother the flame with the supplied lid, allow the unit to cool completely and relight it later while usable fuel remains.
  • Up to five total burn hours: Manufacturer estimate per unit, depending on operating conditions and use.
  • No firewood required: The self-contained fuel uses soy wax and plant-based briquettes.
  • Three edition choices: Select Original Edition, USA Limited Edition or Glow in the Dark from the variant selector.
  • Made in Maryland: City Bonfires states that each unit is handmade in Maryland with American-made materials.

Choose Your City Bonfire Edition

Edition Product-selection guidance
Original Edition The standard City Bonfire design. Confirm that the selected variant image shows the current production artwork.
USA Limited Edition A patriotic edition for Independence Day, military appreciation, American-made gifts and outdoor gatherings. Review the current variant image before ordering.
Glow in the Dark A special-edition exterior design. Confirm which packaging or design elements glow; the phrase does not mean the flame, wax or entire tin glows in darkness.

All editions remain real outdoor fires and require the same safety precautions. BuyAmerican.com should verify that fuel composition, dimensions, burn-time guidance and safety labeling are identical across all three variants.

How to Use a City Bonfire Safely

  1. Check local rules: Confirm that open flame and solid-fuel fires are allowed at the property, campground, park, beach or event location.
  2. Inspect the product: Do not light a damaged, leaking, contaminated or water-exposed unit.
  3. Choose the surface: Place the tin outside on a stable, level, noncombustible and heat-resistant base, such as an appropriate metal trivet, brick, stone or approved fire-pit surface.
  4. Clear the area: Keep the fire away from vegetation, furniture, buildings, tents, canopies, overhangs, clothing and other combustible materials.
  5. Remove the lid: Set it nearby on a heat-safe surface so it is available for extinguishing.
  6. Light the briquettes: Follow the current package instructions and use a long wand or torch-style lighter when recommended by the manufacturer.
  7. Remain present: Keep the fire within sight for the entire burn period.
  8. Extinguish with the lid: Slide or place the lid over the opening to smother the flame. Never pour water onto the unit.
  9. Allow complete cooling: Do not touch, carry or store the product until the tin, lid and wax are completely cool and the wax has hardened.

Review the manufacturer’s official City Bonfire instructions and complete fire and safety warning before use.

Can You Roast Marshmallows Over a City Bonfire?

City Bonfires says the product can be used for roasting marshmallows when the current instructions are followed. The manufacturer recommends allowing the unit to burn for approximately 20 minutes—or until any initial smoke has stopped—before roasting food.

  • Use long roasting skewers suitable for an open flame.
  • Keep hands, sleeves, hair and loose clothing away from the fire.
  • Roast from the side rather than directly above the hottest portion of the flame when directed by the manufacturer.
  • Supervise every person near the fire.
  • Do not allow children to light, extinguish or move the unit.
  • Do not place food that has fallen into the wax or fuel back onto a serving plate.

Food and roasting supplies are not included in this five-pack. For a gift-ready alternative containing a portable fire and s’mores supplies, compare the City Bonfires S’mores Night Pack – Happy Birthday Edition.

Where Can a City Bonfire Be Used?

Potential outdoor uses include:

  • Backyard or patio gatherings
  • S’mores nights
  • Outdoor date nights
  • Picnic areas where fires are permitted
  • Campsites with rules allowing this fuel type
  • Beach areas where open flames are expressly allowed
  • Outdoor weddings and events with venue approval
  • Tailgates where the property owner and local rules allow open flames

Portable does not mean universally permitted. Fire restrictions differ by location, season, weather and fuel type. The National Park Service recommends checking local rules and current fire conditions before starting any fire. Review its campfire planning and safety guidance and contact the responsible property, park or fire authority before use.

Where Should It Never Be Used?

  • Inside a home, apartment or garage
  • Inside a tent, camper, RV or vehicle
  • On an enclosed or screened porch
  • Directly beneath an awning, canopy, tree or low roof
  • Directly on glass, wood, plastic, cork, fabric or ordinary patio furniture
  • Near dry leaves, grass, mulch, fuel, aerosols or other combustible material
  • During prohibited fire conditions or active burn bans
  • While unattended
  • After water has entered the fuel or tin
  • While the user is impaired or intoxicated

Relightable, but Not Refillable

A City Bonfire can be extinguished with its lid and relit later while usable fuel remains. It is not designed to be refilled.

Never add:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Ethanol or bioethanol
  • Lighter fluid
  • Gasoline
  • Cooking oil
  • Loose candle wax
  • Wood, paper or other improvised fuel

Adding unapproved fuel can create an uncontrolled fire or serious burn hazard.

Storage and Disposal

  • Extinguish the flame with the lid.
  • Allow the tin and wax to cool and harden completely.
  • Store it with the lid firmly in place.
  • Keep it in a cool, dry location away from heat, water, children and pets.
  • Do not use a unit that has been contaminated with water.
  • Do not refill the tin.
  • When the fuel is exhausted, follow the maker’s residue-removal guidance.
  • Recycle the clean steel tin only where local recycling programs accept it.

Review additional storage, relighting and disposal information in the manufacturer’s official City Bonfires FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many City Bonfires are included?

Each purchase includes five individual City Bonfire units in the selected edition.

How long does each City Bonfire burn?

The manufacturer currently lists up to five total burn hours per unit, depending on wind, temperature, lighting and how often the fire is extinguished and relit.

Can it be relit?

Yes. Smother the flame with the supplied lid, allow the unit to cool completely and relight it later while usable fuel remains.

Can it be refilled?

No. Never add liquid fuel, alcohol, wax or another combustible material.

Can a City Bonfire be used indoors?

No. It is for outdoor use only. Do not use it in a house, apartment, garage, tent, vehicle, RV, camper or enclosed porch.

Can it be placed directly on a patio table?

No. The manufacturer warns against placing it directly on furniture, glass, wood, cork, plastic or another heat-sensitive or combustible surface. Use a stable, noncombustible, heat-resistant base designed for direct exposure to intense heat.

How is it extinguished?

Smother the flame by sliding or placing the supplied lid over the opening. Never use water, and do not blow on the fire.

Can it be used in the rain?

No. Do not use it in wet conditions or after water has contaminated the fuel. Follow the manufacturer’s disposal instructions for a contaminated unit.

Is it smokeless?

Do not interpret the product as guaranteed smoke-free. The manufacturer’s food-use guidance acknowledges that initial smoke may occur and recommends waiting until it stops before roasting marshmallows.

Can children use it?

No. The manufacturer designates it for adult use. Keep children and pets a safe distance away and maintain continuous adult supervision.

Can it be used during a fire ban?

Do not assume so. Fire bans and restrictions differ by jurisdiction and may prohibit this fuel or all open flames. Contact the relevant campground, park, property owner or fire authority before lighting it.

Can marshmallows be roasted over it?

The manufacturer says yes when its food-use and safety instructions are followed. It recommends waiting approximately 20 minutes or until initial smoke stops before roasting.

Is the tin recyclable?

The steel tin may be recyclable where accepted after the fire is fully exhausted, the container is completely cool and remaining residue has been removed according to the maker’s directions.

Is the five-pack made in the USA?

City Bonfires says the product is handmade in Maryland with American-made materials. BuyAmerican.com should retain current supplier documentation for the exact five-pack and all editions.

Are every ingredient and package component made in the USA?

Do not assume so without documentation. The maker’s stated claim should be preserved exactly, and BuyAmerican.com should separately verify the steel tin, wax, briquettes, printed wrap, lid, label and shipping packaging.
