Maverick Chocolate was founded in 2013 by Paul and Marlene Picton in Cincinnati, Ohio, after their home chocolate-making experiments grew into a family business. Their first factory and shop opened at Findlay Market in 2014, and their dedicated chocolate factory opened in Covington, Kentucky, in 2025. The family’s work centers on making chocolate from cacao beans, building relationships with growers, and paying a premium for carefully sourced ingredients. Paul’s background in aviation also inspired the historic flying-machine illustrations on the wrappers.
These freshly roasted cacao nibs contain one listed ingredient: organic cocoa beans. The nibs are small roasted cocoa pieces with a crunchy texture, offered in an 8 oz bag. The supplier recommends them for yogurt, ice cream, granola, trail mix, cookies, and pancakes, as well as eating them on their own. They provide cocoa texture without the sugar or refined structure of a chocolate bar.
The supplier describes these nibs as freshly roasted. Its published production process roasts cacao and separates the nibs from the husks in its Covington, Kentucky factory. These are United States processing steps; the cacao growing country for this particular bag is not specified. No claim that the cocoa beans themselves were grown in America is made.
Begin with a small sprinkle when adding nibs to yogurt, cereal, or a finished dessert, then adjust the amount for the crunch you prefer. In cookies or pancakes, follow a recipe’s guidance for mix-ins so the quantity suits the batter. Nibs remain crunchy pieces; a recipe that requires melted chocolate or fine cocoa powder calls for a different form of cacao.
Choose the product form that suits what you want to prepare. A drinking chocolate mix, unsweetened cocoa powder, a cacao-and-chai beverage blend, and roasted nibs behave differently in a recipe. Check the ingredient list, package size, and directions together when comparing them, and use the selected variant rather than a general product photograph to determine what you are ordering.

Ready to eat as a small crunchy snack or use as a topping. Sprinkle onto yogurt, ice cream, granola, or cereal. For cookies, pancakes, and other baked goods, follow a recipe’s mix-in quantity. The nibs are small cocoa pieces, so use a different cacao form when the recipe specifically requires finely powdered cocoa or melted chocolate.
