Imperial Double Fermented Soy Sauce — Product Information

Bluegrass Soy Sauce is handcrafted in Louisville, Kentucky using the local ingredients of the Bluegrass state. We combine solar-evaporated sea salt with Kentucky grown soft red winter wheat and non-GMO soybeans from Marion County. The climate of this part of the state is essential because the humidity makes for higher water content in the wheat and soy.

With the combination of non-GMO soybeans, wheat, and yeast (this is called a koji), we add limestone-filtered spring water brought in from Bardstown, Kentucky. Limestone-filtered spring water is the same water used to make Kentucky bourbon. The high mineral content of the limestone-filtered water adheres well to the yeast, ideal for fermenting the mash/koji.

By law, bourbon barrels can only be used once to age bourbon. By using the barrels as an aging vessel, the soy sauce becomes infused with the essence of Kentucky's finest bourbon and the rich oaky flavors from the charred barrels. Each barrel of Bluegrass Soy Sauce ages for one year inside the barrels until it's pressed and the final product is bottled. Bourbon Smoked Soy Sauce Ingredients: water, non-GMO soybeans, wheat, salt, yeast. Umami - translated from Japanese "The 5th Flavor Sense" literally means "Deliciousness" "Yummy."

Flavor Pairings and Everyday Uses

Use the maker's specific recipe notes to decide whether this sauce is best as a marinade, table condiment or finishing addition. Condiments differ in thickness, acidity, sweetness and heat, and the actual ingredients matter. Serve a small amount first and let each diner choose how much to add. Follow the bottle's instructions for storage after opening.

Plan the dish: Check the maker’s actual serving suggestions for the named flavor, then plan a meal or snack around it. When using an unfamiliar ingredient, begin with a small amount so you can decide if it complements your other ingredients. Check whether the product works as a dry seasoning, sweet topping, prepared food or sauce, as each type is handled differently.

Shop for the right portion: Review the selected size and any available variant before buying. Think about how often you will use the item and whether it is meant for family meals, an individual serving or a gift assortment. Some products come in multiple sizes, and their labels can contain distinct ingredient or handling statements.

Make an informed choice: Compare ingredients, allergens, potential cross-contact warnings and any stated dietary certifications with your personal needs. Where the maker has supplied a recipe, follow it. For gatherings, keep the physical label available so guests can check ingredients before tasting.
