Urban Southern launched its online shop in spring 2015 after designer and founder Regina Bauman and her husband, leather craftsman Jay, developed a business from a Christmas-gift tote in Monterey, Tennessee. The brand moved to Pennsylvania following its 2019 acquisition by Daniel and Rachel Smucker and is now based in Narvon, in Lancaster County. Its stated priorities include practical design, traditional leather craftsmanship and thoughtful everyday use. The company also emphasizes community and supporting women, drawing on its family workshop roots as it develops bags, accessories and home goods.

Care

For the leather on this item, the maker recommends cleaning and conditioning every 4–6 months. Remove a small surface spill with a soft damp cloth; its FAQ permits lukewarm water for an initial spot clean when a leather cleaner is not available. Follow with a product intended for the particular leather finish and follow that product’s directions. Test a discreet area before applying a cleaner or conditioner broadly. Keep leather away from a washing machine or immersion, and let it dry naturally before conditioning. Avoid treating a care routine as a waterproofing or lifetime-performance guarantee.
