Start a moringa-growing project with approximately 10 Moringa oleifera seeds for planting. Supplied by Seed Therapy, this packet is for growing a tree—not a live plant, moringa powder, tea or supplement. Pots and growing medium are not included.

Moringa is a fast-growing, cold-sensitive tree. Before ordering, decide whether you have a suitable outdoor location or a container-growing setup with protection from cold weather.

Moringa Seed and Plant Details

Botanical name Moringa oleifera

Supplier-described seed type Heirloom, open-pollinated and non-GMO
Supplier-listed mature height 15–30 feet; pruning and growing conditions affect size
Light Full sun
Supplier-listed USDA zones 9–10; see cold-weather and regional guidance below

How to Start Moringa Seeds

Seed Therapy publishes the following method for this packet:

  1. Soak the seeds in water overnight.
  2. Sow 1 inch deep in a sandy, freely draining potting mix.
  3. Maintain a growing-medium temperature of 70–90°F and keep it moist.
  4. Allow for the supplier’s estimated 3–14-day germination window.
  5. Move seedlings into larger containers as needed; the supplier notes that a taproot develops quickly.

These are estimates, not a guarantee that every seed will sprout or do so on the same day. Follow the current packet instructions and keep the packet for reference.

Review the official Seed Therapy moringa seed instructions.

Growing Moringa in a Container or Outdoors

University of California Cooperative Extension describes moringa as suitable for zones 9b and warmer and notes that frost can kill it. In colder climates, it discusses container growing or cultivation as an annual rather than relying on outdoor winter survival.

A container makes relocation possible, but does not make the plant cold hardy. Plan for sufficient growing space and a protected location before starting seeds. Regular pruning can encourage bushier growth; an unpruned tree and a plant managed for leaf harvest have different space requirements.

Read the University of California’s moringa cultivation overview for this regional growing context.

Check regional suitability before planting. UF/IFAS assesses Moringa oleifera as a high invasion risk and does not recommend it in North, Central or South Florida, apart from specifically approved management situations.

Review the UF/IFAS moringa assessment and seek local extension guidance. Being able to grow a plant in your climate does not establish that it is recommended for your landscape.

Leaf-Harvest Timing Is Not Pod-Harvest Timing

Seed Therapy lists 60–90 days for a first leaf harvest. That estimate does not describe germination or promise mature seed pods within the same period. Weather, plant development and growing conditions affect the result.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a dwarf or named cultivar such as PKM-1?

The current product listing identifies the species but does not name a dwarf cultivar or PKM-1. Do not purchase it expecting a named cultivar that is not specified.

Is the packet sold for eating or making supplements?

No. This offer is planting seed. It is not presented as a food-grade seed product or a finished herbal preparation.

Does American-grown mean the plant is native to the United States?

No. Seed-growing origin and a species’ native range are different. The supplier identifies this seed as American grown; the species is not U.S.-native.
