The Vegvisir Viking Bearded Hatchet Set arrives as two, not one. Axes almost never sell in pairs. Knives do it constantly, but axe buyers get singles. Two matched heads open up options a single cannot.

Both heads carry the same cut work. A circular stave sits at the center of each cheek. Knotwork frames the edges above and below. The pair reads as one design across two pieces.

This Viking hatchet pair for sale runs 13 inches each. Black cord wraps the lower half of both hafts.

Bearded Hatchet Set at Divine Knives with two matched stave-engraved heads, black cord-wrapped hafts, and fire-darkened wood on both.

The History Behind This Vegvisir Bearded Hatchet

Icelandic households kept handwritten books of protective marks and staves. Copyists passed those books down and added new symbols along the way. Several of them survive in Reykjavik library collections today. The compass stave appears across more than one surviving book. Divine Knives cuts that same mark onto two matched heads.

Vegvisir Viking Bearded Hatchet Set Performance

Two hatchets let one stay sharp as the other works. Rough cuts near dirt dull an edge quickly. Keeping a clean one back saves a sharpening session. Most people learn that after ruining a good edge.

Cord wrap covers the lower half of each haft. Your hand sits there during a full swing. Tight coils give texture without adding thickness. Matched weight means both hatchets swing the same way. Thirteen inches keeps both hatchets in one hand each. Lanyard holes at both butts take a wrist cord.

Viking Hatchet Set Construction

Both heads came from the same cut pattern. A stave with radiating arms centers each cheek. Knotwork bands run above and below it. Neither head varies from the other in layout.

Fire darkened both hafts before any wrapping went on. Scorching left dark stripes running the full length. Black cord then covered the lower half of each. Bare torched wood shows above the wrap. Both hafts came off the same stock. A drilled hole closes each butt for a lanyard. Let the cord dry fully before storing either one.

Best Uses for the Stavepair Hatchets

A pair covers two people or two jobs at once. Camp cooking and firewood rarely happen at the same moment. Collectors buy Vegvisir hatchet set pieces for the matched engraving. Throwing ranges also take pairs more often than singles. Both hatchets hang well on the same wall.

Order the StavepairHatchet Set today. Matched pairs are far rarer in axes than in knives.

FAQ’s

Are both hatchets identical?

Yes. Both carry the same head engraving and the same haft treatment. Sizes match across the pair.

Why buy two hatchets instead of one?

One stays clean for fine work, as the other takes rough cuts. It also covers two people at a camp.

What is the cord wrap made from?

Black cord coiled tightly over the lower half of each haft. It adds grip texture without adding bulk.

How is this different from the Wayfinder compass axe?

The Wayfinder is a 16-inch axe with carved crosses and no cord. This is a matched pair at 13 inches with cord-wrapped hafts.

Do the hatchets come with sheaths?

No. Neither head ships with a cover, so store them edge down.
